Week of 1/19/09
Dear Parents,
We are at the half way point starting with a new quarter and we have changed a few things for this half of the year as we prepare to become 4th graders. We will no longer accept re-do work, or work that is later than three days over due; unless the child has been sick. Absent children receive two days for every one day they miss. We are also starting a new homework sheet that will be returned to school every Monday so I can sign what was done the previous week. I will give the sheet back to your child and they will use the back of the sheet for the next week’s assignments. It is something they will have to keep track of to get the homework credit.
This week we will be studying the following in school: New Think Link Probes, Reading - DRA Testing, Writing (Short Story), Math (Multiplication), and in Science (Stars/Planets). The Science Test is January 27 over Chapter 8; we ran a little behind and had to move the test back. We will be on the same reading story this week due to a short week and the DRA assessments we are doing.
If you have not come in for your password to access your child’s grades (on-line), please do so. It is yet another way we are trying to communicate what is happening academically for your child.
Dates to remember: 1/27 Science Test, 2/13 JRFH, 2/16 No School for students,
2/27 Field Trip.
Homework for this week: Monday- Friday: Do Think Link probe for Math, Science, and Reading by Friday. Vocabulary words 15 minutes each night, Read 15 minutes each night and write a two sentence summary with Title, and Author, and telling what you did for homework: Have a parent sign and return sheet to school at the end of each week. Vocabulary words: Words can always be found prior to our reading story (This week Talent Show), in the Vocabulary story (in the reading text): outfielder, concentrate, depend, ballhawk, vanish, and fault.
Think Link Learning probes for homework are due by Friday January 30. Here are the steps to follow: 1. Go to http://assessment.discoveryeducation.com/login/ 2. Click on “Progress Zone.” 3. Type in login code. 4. It will ask for your name type it in as you do at school (first name. last name). The login code for Science is YP3788, and the login code for Reading is VH9280, and the login code for Math is NB0596. You may also access by going to tiptonsclass.com, and clicking on student links, then click on Thinklinklearning.com, student login.
