Week of 4/06/09

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Cayla Orahood, and Isaiah Pike for winning the third grade Young Author’s Book Contest. Their books will go on to the county level to be judged.

I hope you had a great Spring Break! We are in our 4th quarter of school and as some of you know it is the time to see if our children will be able to handle 4th grade. Grades do not always reflect if a child will pass or not, as we must factor in how much assistance s/he is getting on their assignments. I will be looking for the following during this quarter: Can s/he listen and follow instructions, Can s/he work independently, Can s/he stay organized and on-task for a certain amount of time, Are his/her Reading, Writing and Math levels where they should be, etc. If there is cause for concern I will be calling you in for a Parent/Teacher conference.

We have been having “shoe issues,” and need your help. These flat shoes are popular right now, and most of the girls are wearing them too big, or too wide. This has become very dangerous because our girls are not very graceful yet. Shoes are flipping off as they walk, tripping themselves and others. They fall off on the swings and at the play ground. They are putting blisters on feet, and girls are taking off their shoes while sitting at their desks, which really starts the boys fussing at them. These shoes have become a big distraction for our class. I have asked the girls to wear shoes that fit, but we are still having problems. Shoes that do not stay securely fastened at all times are against the dress code. Please help by reminding girls to wear the appropriate shoes before leaving the house.

This week we will be studying the following in school: Reading – Yippee-Yay by Gail Gibbons (170-187), Writing (Personal Narrative), Math (Geometry), and in Science (Matter).
