Week of 9/08/08

Dear Parents,

Midterms come home next week and third grade does do regular grading with percents and letter grades. Since you are accustomed to letters that represent “satisfactory status,” this may be a shock to you at first. You may be under the impression your child’s “S” stood for a higher grade when it could have stood for a “C.” Midterms are great because that means your child still has time to improve by working harder. On specific subjects that may need attention. Also, our new behavior plan does not give reprimands for not turning work in… it will only reflect in the student’s grade. I am putting reading levels in the planner this week. I like the students to read this level and higher to stretch their abilities. Also, this is the level his/her 4-6 books must come from as part of the reading grade.

Grandparent’s luncheon for our classroom will be Friday September 19, at 11:18. Grandparents wishing to have lunch will wait in the lobby after signing in at the office. After lunch they may take their grandchild to the book fair, and come to our classroom to share stories and receive a letter from their grandchild. I am asking they bring their favorite childhood story to share with their grandchild during the time after lunch. They should plan on being here with us from 11:18-12:20.

Dates to remember: 9/8-19 book fair, 9/10 Early Release for students, 9/12 Body works assembly (during school), 9/19 Grandparent’s day, 9/30 Author Visits, 9/30 PM Reading Night in Library, 10/3 Fall Festival, 10/8 Early Release for students, 10/10 End of quarter, 10/20 Report Cards home, 10/22-10/24 No school for students, 10/31 Fieldtrip.

Homework for this week: Monday-Thursday: Study vocabulary words 15 minutes, study multiplication facts “2’s” 10 minutes, read your AR book 15 minutes and write author/title/ and 2 sentence summary. Vocabulary words: Words can always be found prior to our reading story, in the Vocabulary story (in the reading text): stubborn, grumble, mumbled, exploded darted, streak, and languages.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Corbin-Tipton
